The award to TU-K recognises pivotal role the University is playing in supporting the job market in the quest for a hands-on trained graduates who have always found their way in industries locally and internationally, corporate institutions, government institutions, development agencies among others. Some of the graduates from TU-K have succeeded as entrepreneurs, innovatively providing solutions in society.
The assessment of the winners in the award conference was done by specially constituted awards selection jury that comprised of eminent academics, executive managers of foremost academic institutions.
Other institutions across the continent who were awarded included: Gulu University was awarded the most impactful university in ‘Rural Transformation and Community Development’, Nyeri National Polytechnic received top honours in the ‘Best Holistic Institutional Excellence and Community’ in the integrated technical training category, Kampala University was honoured with the ‘Leadership and Excellence Award in Accessible Education’.
International Business, Science and Technology University was recognised in the category of, ‘Global Champion of Accessible Excellence Education & Skills Innovation Africa’, while Great Lakes University of Kisumu was awarded ‘Best University in Community Health and Development Education in Kenya’.
Some of the conference thematic discussions included; making academic syllabuses more relevant to Africa’s needs and challenges, improving access to finance by academic institutions, deploying technology for distance learning use of academic research for the public and private sectors among other topical areas.
