Today The Technical University of Kenya was a hive of activities as 4,905 first year students of which 3,590 under Module I and 1,315 under Module II turned up for the start of the September 2026 Orientation Programme.
Excitement was evident from early morning as the new students, many accompanied by their parents and guardians, registered and found their way to the Main Hall ahead of the 8:30 a.m. start of the programme.
The Ag. Dean of Students, Mr. Maurice Ochieng, moderated the day's proceedings, which opened with a session on setting the environment led by the Academic Registrar, Dr Moses Wamalwa.Students were taken through an information-packed day covering accommodation and catering services, an introduction to French language offerings at TU-K, and a candid session on students' rights, responsibilities and legal matters. The staff from the Dean of Students' Office also took the floor for interactive sessions on co-curricular activities, student life, welfare, personal development and wellness, a reminder that university life extends well beyond the lecture hall.
The day closed with a lively session on student governance and leadership, facilitated by the Students Association of the Technical University of Kenya (SATUK) Executive, giving freshers a first taste of the vibrant student leadership culture on campus.
Speaking to the new students, the university officials emphasised that orientation week was designed to ease the transition into campus life by familiarising students with academic procedures, university leadership, support services and the standards of conduct expected of them as they join the TU-K community.
The programme continues through the week with sessions on admissions and registration, examination, and library resources on Tuesday, ICT services and student portal registration, as well as an awareness talk on alcohol and substance abuse on Wednesday. Thursday will see students report to their respective faculties that is the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment, the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology, and the Faculty of Social Sciences and Technology for faculty-specific briefings, departmental orientation and guided facility tours.
The orientation programme shall end on Friday 4th September, with the address by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Benedict Mutua, followed by an interactive question and answer session giving students a chance to engage directly with University leadership.
