Engineering students at TU-K have a reason to smile. Their programmes are 99% accredited by professional bodies.
This according to the Dean Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment (FEBE), Prof. Cleophas Maende. The Dean spoke while addressing first-year students during the 4th day of orientation.
He termed their admission at the University a great achievement and urged them to make use of the available resources. “This will be your home for the next few years. TU-K has remained a distinctive player in academic and technical education. The institution attracts bright students and we hope you will support us achieve this dream.”
“We offer programmes that are important to society. Regulation of any profession that touches on the safety and health, and welfare of the public is mandatory worldwide. The most notable ones in Kenya are the engineering and medical professions. More often, we in engineering are on the spotlight even in the media. That is why, we urge you, to take your respective programmes seriously.”
Prof. Maende advised students to be sure of the programmes they have been admitted to, study diligently and have passion for them. He advised them about class attendance and cautioned against exam malpractices and other indiscipline cases that may interfere with their studies or lead to expulsion.
“You have come to a different learning environment where nobody will dictate to you what to do. However, we have clear policy and regulations that needs to be adhered to such as timetable, class attendance and examinations. There is no space for plagiarism.”
