“The role of universities and training institutions which produce journalists cannot be ignored. How do we for instance, make journalists independent if they are not trained to be independent and ethical?” posed Dr. Bosire.

“So training is very critical when it comes to the editors' guild mandate. My role at the guild will be to bring ideas from the academia, about the outlook of our teaching. What are we teaching? What are the challenges? What are the opportunities that we have generally in Kenya?”

“We also want to get feedback from them, for example when they detect the issues in the field, they can advise us on emerging trends. As such, even if we don’t change our curricula, we can have sponsored symposiums for journalism students,” he added.

Dr. Bosire holds PhD in Communications and Information and Masters in Communication Studies from The University of Nairobi, and a Bachelor degree in Humanities - Swahili and Sociology from Kenyatta University.

In addition to the above, he is also an experienced journalist, Editor and Media Manager having worked at the Nation Media Group.
